"Why this manga?" You might ask.

This is one of my absolute favourite!!! I have 3+ sets of this series along. ^_^;;; One set of original Japanese tankouban, 1+ set of Chinese pirated version collected from different publishers and one set of Chinese copyright version.Crazy?? Yeah, maybe. :p
Too bad it's not ended and might never will be. T_T
The most recent volume was published around 1992 and SHITOU Ryuoko, the creator of this series, said that she needed a break. After that, nothing.
SHITOU-sensei, please don't forget us YajiKita reader. Pretty please....sob, sob....
Anyway, it's kinda hard to list all the elements that make me love this series this much here. Let me think about it more, and I will write it down in the Personal Thoughts section later. Right now, the only thing I can say is, if you are tired of the the-heroines-are-oh-so-strong-yet-always-NEED-a-male-to-save-her formula, maybe this is the right manga for you. No, this is not a Super Woman type of manga. In fact, the two female characters, Yaji-san and Kita-san, still get help from their male friends. The point is, they offer their help, too. I myself enjoyed this nice balance very much.

I want to encourage people to buy the manga so that someday SHITOU-sensei might continue to draw it. I know it's quite impossible, but one can surely hope, now can she?

Synopsis

YAJIMA Junko a.k.a. Yaji-san and SHINOKITA Reiko a.k.a. Kita-san are two 17-years-old high school students. The story started when they, once again, ended up having to fight with the delinquent students in the school and, once again, won easily. To avoid getting into further trouble, they decided to leave the school. This incident wouldn't be such a big deal if they had not already repeated this pattern for six times, in six different schools. The funny thing is, although they have never told each other to which school they were transferring, they always suprisingly found that they ended up in the same school. This time, however, they knew that they were together in this 7th school - Mitsuba High School (Mitsuba Gakuen), because the school's principal Mr.DOKUNARI asked them to. There was this delinquent student group in his school. It's not the normal small group of bad students who did something bad once in a while. It's growing to be a big organization that control all such groups in other schools in a big area. He heard about Yaji-san and Kita-san and wanted to hire them to stop this organization. They decided to take this offer. And then everything started from here....

Being tall and beautiful, she is always the focus of others. People's first inpression about her, the pretty long-black-hair girl who happens to be a good student must be quite and tender and has good manner stereo type, is far from her real self. Tomboyish is not a very accurate way to describe her, but it catchs a part of Yaji-san's personality. She has not much patient, tends to be hyper sometimes and LOVE to fight. She is indeed a good student, though. She get top grade in almost every subjects, except her fatal enemy, Mathematic. Sometimes she try to act very ladylike, hoping that she can stay away from trouble this way, since her mother would be extremely mad if she has to transfer again. Unfortunately she simply can't stay that way long, her strong sense of justice makes her step forward every time she see something wrong. In short, she is the princess coming in shining dress(you see, she doesn't have to depend on stuff like armor) to save you, doesn't matter who you are.

SHINOKITA Reiko aka Kita-san

"O Kita-san, Kita-san! wherefore art thou Kita-san?"

She is beautiful too, yet maybe not in a feminine way so she doesn't attrack as much attention as Yaji-san does in the first glance. Her polite and distant manner doesn't help much, either. However, once she, usually reluctantly, steps in the spotlight, girls can't help noticing how cool she is. She can always sense it while a female is truely in distress and always does her best to protect them. That's why she has "woman problem" anywhere she goes. Cool, calm and collective is a term that suits her well. She is a very excellent student and get even higher grade than Yaji-san's. Although it might not appear so, she has a strong sense of justice, too. The difference between she and Yaji-san is that she only helps people when they are really in need, while Yaji-san can't refuse to help as long as they beg or cry.

DOKUNARI Yukiya

"BakaDono wa Engi Da!"

He, yes you heard me right, male he is. ^_^; He is the only son of the principle of Mitsuba High School, and the leader of the delinquent group in the school even though it looks like that he is not the real leader, but just one on the surface. He admired Yaji-san very much not in the romantic way, but as his "big sister". Constantly acting silly and girl-like, few people know what is going on in his mind. However, as the story progress, we find that he is quite easy to understand. Despite being smart and talented in all kind of sports and fighting skills, he IS kind of sissy. All he want is stay relaxed and having fun. Very un-ambitious.

"Kotetsu wa Itsudemo Ue-sama no Osoba ni..."

Oh well. He is a Ninja. His family has served Yukiya's family for three generations. That's why Yukiya is his "master". He always help Yukiya investigating things, you know, the usual Ninja stuff. He is the type of person who always try to do his best. Very quite and tender, one of my favourite type. ^_^

Personal Thoughts

I said I am going to discuss why I love this manga so much in this section, but so far I only have a few unorganized thoughts here and there. ^_^;; Guess I will just write them down and rearrange them later.

About Yaji-san: She is very much like the typical type of hero in so many shonen manga. You know, the delightful, optimistic, never think twice and sometimes a bit too dense air-head. A good example would be Seiya in _Saint Seiya_. As far as I know, many girls just can't understand why he is the hero of that manga, not any of the other four. The common explanation is that so the target readers, the teenage boys, can identify themself with the protagonist. This type of male character usually do nothing to me. I mean, they are likable, but I am not crazy about them. So I myself am quite surprised that Yaji-san charms me so much. Of course, there are some differences between she and those male characters. She is tall and beautiful, considering the basic design of shonen hero is usually a plain looking average boy. Maybe female weight appearrance more after all. :P She is smarter, too. Anyway, imaging having a close friend like Yaji-san is a very pleasant feeling.
